Homecoming Spotlight: Jose Campoverde

Homecoming Spotlight: Jose Campoverde

This year’s boys’ homecoming court brings excitement, school spirit, and reflection as students gather to celebrate tradition and community. Among those nominated is senior Jose Campoverde (12), who described the experience as both unexpected and meaningful.

“I didn’t expect to be nominated, so I think it’s definitely a cool feeling to know that some people voted for me,” Campoverde said.

He added that the nomination made him appreciate the diversity of students at the school, noting that,

“There are many other interesting guys that are deserving of the nomination just as much as me,” Campoverde said.

While Campoverde admitted he was not heavily involved in school clubs or activities, he reflected honestly on his experience.

“To be completely honest, I probably should’ve done more and maybe taken the time to look into more clubs and activities. Don’t be like me and try new things,” Campoverde said.

Despite this, he still expressed enthusiasm for school events, especially homecoming.

“I think the homecoming game will be pretty cool,” Campoverde said.

He is also sharing his excitement for the upcoming winter season. When asked about preparing for homecoming, Campoverde joked about his outfit.

“No, I’m not a huge fan of suits, I think I’ll save that for prom, but I definitely should figure out what I’m going to wear because my mom keeps asking me,” Campoverde said.

Beyond the celebration, Campoverde spoke thoughtfully about the impact he hoped to have had on the school.

“I hope that I made some people smile and maybe made their day, I hope that I made people see different perspectives and see that kindness and empathy is cool,” Campoverde said.

Campoverde shared that he does not live by a specific motto.

“I haven’t quite figured out my motto yet. I guess I don’t really have one, I just exist,” Campoverde said.

Still, his reflections on high school revealed important lessons he plans to carry forward.

“Being kind to people can literally change someone’s life. Sometimes people are going through a really tough time, and if you have the ability to make their life a little easier, why would you not?” Campoverde said.

Campoverde is graduating early to get a headstart, he plans to attend Maryville College in the spring, where he hopes to pursue a degree in Biology, while remaining open to where life may lead him.

“I am starting my first semester of college in the spring at Maryville College. I hope to get a degree in Biology, but at the end of the day, I could change my course in life,” Campoverde said.

Looking back, he believes high school shaped him in meaningful ways.

“High school has definitely taught me some important lessons that have shaped me,” Campoverde said.

As boys’ homecoming comes to a close, Campoverde’s reflections serve as a reminder that the event is about more than titles; it’s about community, kindness, and celebrating the individuals who make the school a welcoming place. Leaving lasting memories that build the bonds among students, staff, and the school family.
