Being chosen is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, filled with meaning, as you are recognized by your peers for the significance that you have played in their high school years. Preston Smith (12) understands the importance of this and is sure he will cherish every moment.
“It means everything, my whole life has built up to this monumental occasion, and I won’t let it slip by; I have to seize the moment,” Smith said.
For Smith, being nominated to the homecoming court serves as both a time for celebration and a time for reflection as he digs into the attributes he has exhibited, which led him to this moment. Smith’s high school years have been marked by a variety of ups and downs, but one trend that has remained throughout the duration of his time in high school is his undying tenacity and ambitious nature. Smith is incredibly grateful and excited to have been selected for homecoming
“I am elated; I play three varsity sports, I think I’m a leader in the school, and I am in all honors classes,” said Smith.
All of these qualities and experiences have heavily contributed to character, as Smith stands out as an influential figure within the school, further reinforcing why he was selected by his peers for the homecoming court.
“My advice to future homecoming nominees is just to get your face all around the school. Try your hardest to be involved in everything,” Smith said.
