Homecoming Spotlight: Lucas Moore

Homecoming Spotlight: Lucas Moore

It’s that time of year again: time to crown a king. Being elected to homecoming court means you’ve had an impact on the school or community in a powerful way, which makes Lucas Moore (12) a perfect candidate. For Moore, being nominated is a surprising opportunity and he’s so grateful to have an experience he wouldn’t have had otherwise.

“Honestly I was sort of surprised because I don’t know a lot of people who would have voted for me in the senior class. It was kind of funny that I made it on with my brother,” Moore said.

His shock was shared by no one else; academic, athletic, and musical prowess have defined Moore’s high school career. His involvement in NHS, HOSA, swimming, marching band, Top Notes, and KYSE have made waves that didn’t go unnoticed by his peers. His academic drive has encouraged his impact on the community.

“Being involved has given me more opportunities to go to better schools, and have more financial support for college. It’s given me a better chance at being successful in life,” Moore said.

His time in high school has been filled with fun; having classes with his friends made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. He noted how funny his junior history class was, reminiscing on the mischief that cut through the long school days. Moore has found a solid group of people to call friends. Even still, the most valuable thing he’s learned in his time is to keep his personal interests private.

“Word gets around quickly, so if you’re gonna tell one person you’re basically telling the whole school,” Moore said.

After graduation, you’ll find Moore getting his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and then onto medical school. He’ll then move into residency, and once all his education is complete, he hopes to be a trauma surgeon. Many family members have inspired him to take this path, specifically his uncle who is a trauma surgeon. While he had a good run in high school, Moore is eager to pursue a higher education and rewarding career.

“[I’m excited about] helping people, and there’s something satisfying about rebuilding something after it’s been destroyed,” Moore said.

All things must come to an end. Four years have gone by in a flash, but the lessons he has learned inside and out of the classroom will be with him forever. With his time in high school coming to an end, Moore wishes to leave behind a piece of advice:

“Pay attention in classes. Make sure you take some of the higher level classes, because that’s less stuff you need to pay for in college. Make sure you have fun because that’s the last four years of fun you’ll have before buckling down what you’re gonna do for the rest of your life. Make as many friends as you can, and make sure they’re real friends,” Moore said.

Being on homecoming court is an honor shared by few. Moore’s intelligence, athleticism, and ambitious nature makes it clear why he was chosen by his peers to represent the class. This opportunity reflects all he’s done, and all he will do for his community.
