Bidding Joan Goodbye

On September 4th, 2014, beloved mother, actress, and comedian Joan Rivers passed away in a New York hospital. Rivers had been admitted into Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Hospital, only a day before in order to prep for the surgery that would lead to the end of her life. When Rivers went in that morning, no one imagined that she would never come out. After all, it was only a small procedure on her vocal cords. However, at the age of eighty-one, Rivers passed away while in the operating room, leaving her only daughter; Melissa Rivers.
Rivers will surely be missed by her fans and her fans that witnessed her funeral at Temple Emanu-el on Sunday in the Upper East Side of New York City. Though the fans and press were kept at bay, the funeral was rather flamboyant in memory of Rivers. Among the guests were Howard Stern, Whoopi Goldberg, and the well-known Donald Trump. Stern, having been a close family friend of Rivers for many years, performed her eulogy, and shortly after Hugh Jackman along with the New York City Gay Men’s Choir, bid her a farewell as her body was lowered. As the funeral commenced, bagpiper’s played ‘New York, New York’, one of Rivers’s favorite songs.
Rivers will always be present in the lives of her fans, friends, and family. Forever she will be remembered and loved. June 8th, 1933 – September 4th, 2014.
