Every year in Augusta Georgia, the biggest golf match of the year takes place. The Masters is a very traditional, special week in golf. The course is known to be one of the hardest courses in the world. Professional golfers from all over gather to compete in this week-long tournament.

The tournament was founded by golfer Bobby Jones and banker Clifford Roberts. The first official masters took place in 1934 in Augusta. The tournament has been held there every year since then. A big tradition at the masters is the jacket presentation. The champion gets their very own green jacket. The previous master’s winner jackets the new champion every year and so on. The green jacket represents a champion at the masters, they are only allowed to wear it when in Augusta. This tradition began in 1949 when Sam Snead received the first-ever green jacket. Another tradition held within the tournament is the champion dinner. This is where past champions gather for dinner. The winner of the previous year picks what is served for dinner each year as well. 

Many well-known golfers throughout history have won the masters. This includes people such as Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Phil Mickelson. Nicklaus carries the record of the most champion titles from the masters. He has six wins in Augusta and the runner-up with five victories is Tiger Woods. 

Every year, the course goes through small changes to keep the challenge going for players. Over the years the course has gone through many renovations to make sure each player is challenged to the best of their ability. 

This year’s champion is Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler played an outstanding game throughout the week. In 2022 Scheffler won his first masters, this year he brought home another victory. 

The masters have a very important and traditional history behind them. The tournament is considered one of the most anticipated events in professional golf each year. People from all over gather to watch the week-long tournament.
