Goodbye Saban!

Goodbye Saban!

January 10th, 2024 – the day sports history changed forever. Most know the legend and wonderful coach, Nick Saban. On this day, Saban announced his retirement from coaching. After many national titles and championships, Saban finally said goodbye to his legacy.

After many years of assisting head football coaches, Saban started his head coaching career at the University of Toledo in 1989. Saban then became a defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns. After four years with the Browns, Saban returned to college football and went to Michigan State to become head coach. In 2000 Saban transferred to LSU, and after coaching there for four years he led to many victories and an SEC championship and title.

He left college football again and went to the Miami Dolphins. From 2005-2007 he had many ups and downs after returning to the NFL. In December of 2007, Saban announced he was transferring back to college football and becoming Alabama’s next head coach. From 2007-2023 he coached Alabama to win many SEC titles and six other national titles. He has coached number-one draft picks for the NFL. Saban has also coached D1 commits from all over the country. Not only has he coached the best of the best, he has many Heisman winners that have played for him during his time at Alabama.

Senior here at LCHS, Beau Fraker shares his thoughts on Saban’s retirement.

“With Saban retiring it is switching over to the new generation of the SEC and coaching,” Fraker said.

Fraker continues to shine a light on Saban’s influence on the football world over the years.

“Saban is one of the most accomplished and best coaches. It is impressive to see how long his reign has gone on for so many years,” Fraker said.

Despite not being an Alabama fan, Fraker still recognizes his successful and influential career.

“Even though I am a UT fan, you can’t deny his legacy and accomplishments as a coach,” Fraker said.

The sports world has learned so much from Saban’s coaching on and off the field. College football will not be the same without Saban standing on the sidelines. He has achieved many goals and has opened new doors for many players. The impact of Saban will live on through many coaches, players, and sports fans.
