On January 8th, 2017 at a well known award show, the Golden Globes, Meryl Streep was awarded for her lifetime of notable work. While accepting the award she took the opportunity to expose the president elect Donald Trump. She passionately spoke out about how his actions at a late 2015 rally was anything but presidential.

As witnessed by most of America, Trump mocked a disabled reporter who has difficulty controlling his joints. The act has stuck with Streep since the day it happened, it horrified and disturbed her that  “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it and I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie, it was real life,” said Streep.

Trump claims that mocking the reporter was not his intention and it was all a misunderstanding. Although Streep was visually shaken by the occurrence and couldn’t fathom that, “the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter,” said Streep.

One of our own students had something to say about the incident. “Well I’m a Republican but I don’t think Trump should have mocked the reporter; it was uncalled for,” said Grace Caughron (10).

The event is eye opening, the most important person in our country bullied a disabled reporter. For a country that has a whole anti bullying campaign that is widely known and supported, one of the biggest supporters being Melania Trump, we obviously don’t pay enough attention to the people around us, or just overlook it.”We have to find a better way to talk to each other, to disagree with each other, to respect each other,” said Melania Trump. I think most would agree.
