On January 9th, 2016, the LCHS swim team had a swim meet at the Lenoir City pool against Halls. The team lost with a score of 91-171.

 

There were three new state cuts made to the additional cuts already. Jacob Gump (12) made cuts in the 500 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Rachel Scheffer (9) made one state cut in the 100 backstroke.

 

There was one new city meet cut made by Logan Wright (10) in the 500 free.

 

There were many first place finishers at this meet. Hunter Blue (10) got first place in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Jacob Gump (12) in the 100 backstroke, Rachel Scheffer (9) in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and Logan Wright (10) in the 200 freestyle.

 

There were four swimmers who beat their best times. Those swimmers are Rachel Scheffer (9), Jacob Gump (12), Hunter Blue (10), and Nathan Holliman (9).

 

Kayli Martin (11), a junior on the high school team who will be attending the city meet, said this was her first year on a competitive swim team. “I got into swimming over the summer and decided to join the school team,” she said. “I like the competitive atmosphere and how we’re always being pushed to do better,” said Martin.
There are three meets left in the season, including one home meet, the city meet at Allan Jones Aquatic Center at UT, and the state meet in Nashville.
