Lenoir City students had a night filled with flashing lights, dancing, and music at their homecoming dance. To get the party started, many students got ready with their friends. There was tons of hair curling, bow tie tying, and putting on sparkly dresses or suits. One student, Aryiana Clarvoe (11), enjoyed getting ready for her night.
“I had fun doing my makeup and hair,” Clarvoe said.
After getting ready, many students decided to take pictures to capture their night. They got pictures with their dates, friends, and families. Lilly Byard (9) took pictures with her girls and her date at the Old Mill. Her photographer captured the silly, cute, and heartwarming moments.
“We had Joey Exum take pictures for us. It was fun coming up with different poses to do with different friends that were there and my date,” Byard said.
Once the dance started and everyone put their dance shoes on, it was like the room caught on fire with energy. From the “Watch Me” song by Richard Lamar Hawk to the “Cha Cha Slide” by DJ Casper, everyone was dancing like the floor itself was alive and was pulling them into the rhythm. While everyone had a different experience of the dance, Clarove had quite a night.
“It was fun, exciting, and great overall. My favorite part of the dance was the music,” Clarove said.
The dance wasn’t only filled with music and lights, Student Council added a great addition to the dance that filled everyone’s bellies. Students enjoyed fruits like grapes, pineapples, and strawberries. They even got to savor the warm sweet treats like cookies and cupcakes. While Clarove adored the music, Kali Walker (9) loved the yummy food that was being served.
“[The dance] was fun and exciting; my favorite part was the food,” Walker said.
The photobooth was a crowd-puller. The whole night students got dressed up with sunglasses, tiaras, and blowups. The photobooth was a way for students to reminisce about their night. They got to take three photos with the props of their choice, print photos out, and save the pictures onto their phone. Jalissa Pringle (9) loved the touch of commemorating her night with the fun pictures.
“It was fun to dress up with props and hang photos up in my room afterwards. [I also loved how] we could go as many times as we wanted with as many people,” Pringle said.
As students wanted to keep the party alive after the dance, many concluded their night with fun activities. Some took their group to Top Golf while others wanted to spend time at Sonic.
At Top Golf, Madison Caldwell (11) got to end her night by trying to knock down the Angry Birds tower and get the most points.
“I had fun playing and hitting the towers and getting 3rd place,” Caldwell said.
While Caldwell was getting her swing on, Hailey Aikens (10) wrapped up her night at Sonic. She went with her friend Reed Mizer (11) and got a delicious Sonic blast.
“I went to Sonic, the oreo blast was amazing,” Aikens said.
As the night ended and dance circles started to fade, students left the venue with a melancholy feeling. Even as some were excited to go hang out after the dance, the last five minutes everyone lingered not wanting to leave.
The Homecoming dance allowed everyone to come together, make new friendships, and learn more about each other. At this event, students stepped out of their comfort zone and had a fun night, forgetting any problems they may face. The dance brought a new sense of community and united the school together.
