For some, homecoming week is highlighted by the dance or the football game, but for Blakelee Hodnett (10) homecoming week has been an opportunity to step into a leadership role through her own creativity. Every year each class is designated a sheet to paint with a theme to follow; the sheet will be hung at the pep rally above each class.
Hodnett is an involved member of student council, and has been since her freshman year. Hodnett has seen positive changes made to student council in the past few months. She was put in charge of the sophomore class sheet. Hodnett immediately knew what she wanted to paint, but was apprehensive of the process, knowing that it would be a lengthy one.
“I really feel like I was able to bring my original vision to life. It turned out almost exactly how I imagined it. There were a few people who came and helped, and I had so much fun working with them and getting to know them better,” Hodnett said.
This week has been a stressful time for everyone involved in all of the festivities that make homecoming so fun, but Hodnett has found some peace in working diligently behind the scenes.
“Even though the week has been stressful with everything going on, like planning for the dance and decorating for Halls and Walls, painting and watching my ‘Panther-Man’ design come to life helped me relax and clear my mind, even just for a little while,” Hodnett said.
Hodnett dedicated many class periods towards working to meet her goal, but in the end all of her time and dedication paid off. Perseverance through the seemingly endless days helped her vision truly come to life. Hodnett’s painting inspiration was able to be fulfilled into real life by the help of others and managing her own time well.
“Time management was super important throughout the process. I set small goals for each work session, which helped me stay on track and make consistent progress without getting stuck on one thing for too long,” Hodnett said.
Hodnett is prideful about her school involvement and the ways that she continues to give back to her friends and other members of her class. Community outreach has always been a passion for Hodnett, she believes that the best way to share positivity is by being involved. For others looking to find something to be a part of here at LCHS, Hodnett offers a piece of advice.
“If I had to give a piece of advice to someone wanting to get more involved at the school, it would be to just go for it! Don’t be afraid of anyone or anything, as God has a plan for everything you may get involved in!” Hodnett said.
