High School sports are more than just about winning– they offer students the opportunity to build teamwork skills, leadership skills, and new friendships. Whether it’s the sprint of a track star, the clash of a baseball bat, or the intensity of a soccer match, these sports come together in community and create memories that will last a lifetime. Though these sports vary from individual strengths, like tennis and track, to team-centered games like soccer and softball. Softball, baseball, track, tennis, and soccer games highlight most high schoolers’ spring semester.
The Lady Panther softball team is doing better than they have in almost half a decade. They stand 2nd in the district, with their record being 2-1. In their regular season, they are 8-6. This record has never been this good since 2018. This includes a win against our rivals, Loudon Redskins.
Soccer, which can also be known as futbol, has suffered challenges this season, but continues to persevere as the team plays its hardest. They are 5th in the district as of right now, and their regular season is 2-4. Though they may not be off to the right start right now, they’re continuing to get better each day. They have to prepare for what could be one of their biggest games of the season. The Loudon Redskins is a district game but also important to a lot of the players because we have things to prove.
The baseball team has been on a rocky road for a couple of years ever since they lost some seniors who cared a lot about the baseball program. The seniors and juniors are working their hardest to get the program back to where it once was. They are now 4th in the district, with their record being 1-5. Their regular season record is 5-14. Though this may not seem like the best record, the teams they’re up against give them a run for their money. Including teams like Eagleville, which are the first in the district and have only lost three games.
Track season has gotten off to the right foot. Though they do not keep a track of “records”, this is their overall best season, with two of their teammates who have broken records. Bryson Daughtery recently broke the discus record that had been kept for multiple decades.
Last but not least, the tennis team. The team may not have the best record, but they have their hearts into it and enjoy what they’re doing. The team, despite not having the best resources, does pretty well.
Though all these sports are different in their ways, they all have one thing in common. They want to see others succeed, so they can succeed together as a team. And as Panthers, I think that is something good we do together.
