Living on Cloud 9: Megan Moroney's New Chapter

On February 20th, 2026, Megan Moroney officially changed from blue to pink with the release of Cloud 9. Megan Moroney, a country singer from Georgia, first got on the map with her first album, Lucky, in 2023, and her second album, Am I Okay?, in 2024. Traction for Moroney and her music took a jumpstart during her Am I Okay? tour throughout all of 2025. Her target audiences have been teenage and college-aged girls who all showed up in cowgirl boots to her concerts in cities like Nashville, Tennessee, New York, and Los Angeles, California. Moroney’s previous album expressed sadness, heartbreak, and authentic vulnerability. With a bold change of vibe and outlook on love and life, Moroney has confidently entered into her hopeful and optimistic career phase that truly portrays how she is living her life far beyond the sky’s limit. Paighton Griffis (10) shares her insight on how Cloud 9 is evidence that Moroney is growing as a person and artist.

“In comparison, I think the lyrics are a lot more detailed [in Cloud 9] than her other albums like Am I Okay?,” Griffis said.

After months of waiting for new content while Moroney was on tour, Griffis’ expectations were met and exceeded with the long-awaited album. The substance and content of the lyrics allow listeners to understand the deeper meaning that Moroney is trying to convey. Moroney has recently experienced a newfound happiness and confidence about her life that she has expressed through the songs on her new album. Even amid the deep emotional vulnerability in some of her lyrics, she creates an upbeat sound that symbolizes her joyful state of mind.

“I like Wedding Dress because it talks about missing someone when you’re getting married, and it talks about her not wanting to miss someone for that long, but also, most of [her album] is happy, [and] it’s upbeat,” Griffis said.

Alayna Tramell (10) explained her favorite song on Cloud 9 was “Medicine” because of its joyful and exciting blend of an upbeat country-pop sound and energy that gives a confident twist on a breakup. Medicine is a high-energy song that communicates her cowgirl confidence approach to life and is one of the main songs on the album to develop this idea. The growth that Moroney has personally experienced is displayed best through songs like Medicine because she is secure and assured in who she is. Moroney also has songs on her album like 6 Months Later which has a similar vibe to it as Medicine, and she has songs like Beautiful Things which show deeper thoughts and self-reflection. In Beautiful Things, Moroney describes moments of insecurity and difficulties she has faced with guys and girls throughout her life. It’s songs like these on her albums that are so relatable to teenage girls while also carrying a playful and catchy tone.

“I would say Cloud 9 is very happy, [and] I thought that it was really well written, and I really liked all of it,” Tramell said.

With her blend of happiness, boldness, and self-assurance, Moroney makes Cloud 9 more than just an album; it’s a colorful, windows-down, sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs kind of experience that pulls listeners onto their own version of Cloud 9, where the joy feels real, and the confidence sticks with you.
