Champagne Papi Drops a Cold One

Aubrey Graham, AKA Drake, Champagne Papi, Drizzy, Da Goat, 6 god, and October’s Very Own, is an incredible musician and rapper who has paved the way for a generation of young talent. His music has topped the charts time and time again, and in just a few short days, his album titled Iceman will do it again. This album has been highly sought after and speculated after his rap feud with small rap artist Kendrick Lamar. The release of this album has facilitated grave amounts of uproar and controversy within the city of Toronto, as it has come with multiple stunts to promote the album. However, in light of this controversy, Drake fans like Lucas Taylor (11) still stand true in support of the release of the album.

“I’m pretty hyped after the Kendrick beef is over. I think he has had time to reflect and produce great music,” Taylor said.

The album was previously predicted to release back in December, however after numerous leaks, the release date was pushed back multiple times. This slow rollout has not come without conflict. Some haters emphasize that this album has the possibility of hindering Drake’s legacy, however some students like Easton Jones (11) believe that this is not the case. In fact, he believes this album will greaten his legacy regardless.

“Drake is already the best singer/songwriter of all time so his legacy is already solidified, so this is just the cherry on top,” Jones said.

Many fans also believe that Iceman could mark a new era in Drake’s career and showcase a more mature style of music. Discussions on social media surrounding the album have continued to build excitement as listeners analyze snippets, rumors, and promotional leaks. With expectations at an all-time high, supporters are hopeful that Drake will once again prove why he is the biggest name in the music industry. Many Drake fans at the school have continued to share their excitement as the album’s release date gets closer. For longtime Drake listeners, the anticipation surrounding Iceman has become one of the biggest topics in music this year. Particularly, Alex Duncan (11) is elated for the release of this new album.

“I’m ecstatic for the Iceman album because Drake is legendary,” Duncan said.

Additionally, many fans have also shared specific hopes for the sound and direction of the album. Will he try R&B? Will he try rapping? His direction with this album is almost completely unknown. After experimenting with different styles in recent years, listeners are eager to hear Drake return to the signature sound that helped define his career in albums such as Take Care and Views. Some are especially interested in seeing which artists will appear on the project and whether the album will contain any surprising collaborations. One of these people who are awaiting this album is Lucy Malone (11).

“I’m expecting deep voice Drake to come back and I expect zesty Drake to leave. I also want some fire features that are unexpected,” Malone said.

Ultimately, this album will most likely serve as a capstone to Drake’s career. For decades Drake has dominated the music industry, and it appears as though he is going to do it one more time.
