August was that ‘back to school’ season. However, this month, October, is the month of those skeletons in the closet. Everyone has issues with their high-school career, but Veronica Sawyer went to the extreme. Heathers: The Musical has an aura like no other musical, with its powerful lyrics and theme this musical would make a great winner for this months musical. From the High School reboots, TikTok fame, and the countless bootleg’s for this musical it’s gotten around to thousands of people.

Veronica Sawyer just wants to survive her last year of high school, but she’s surrounded by the queen bees and jocks. Heather duke, Heather McNamara, and Heather Chandler are the bullies that makes people’s lives miserable.

“I absolutely love the queen bee Heather, and I think their group is different, but it works as a dynamic. Heather Chandler is my favorite,” Maggie Boyd (10).

Veronica is turned ‘Beautiful’ by the Heathers and she finally joins their hive. Everyone starts to notice her more and while she tries to fit in with her new group, she starts having a relationship with the new bad boy of the school, Jason Dean. As Veronica’s and JD’s relationship matures, Veronica finds herself resenting Heather Chandler more and more. After a party hosted by Ram and Kurt, Veronica gets on Heathers bad side and she is kicked out of the group and deemed ‘dead girl walking’.

 

The morning after Veronica and JD make some questionable decisions, they decide to go to Heather Chandler’s house to ‘make amends’.

They end up tricking her into drinking drain cleaner and she falls through her glass table and dies. JD convinces Veronica to forge a suicide note and they leave. During, and after, Heather’s funeral, her ghost shows up, but only for Veronica.

 

“I think Veronica was hallutionating Heather, because she had an immense feeling of guilt,” Loren Forrester (10).

 

Veronica continues to feel the guilty of killing Heather throughout the movie.

 

Heather Duke takes Chandler’s red scrunchie and she claims the power as ‘queen bee’.

Veronica leaves the church and Heather McNamara convinces her to go on a double date with her, Ram, and Kurt. This obviously quickly turns into a disaster and Veronica is eventually saved by JD.

 

That night, while Veronica is crying over Kurt and Rams actions to JD, JD tricks Veronica into ‘pranking’ the two jocks into thinking that they could get together with Veronica, but then knock them out. Both of the jocks arrive to the designated forrest, where the prank will go down. However, when JD and Veronica shoot the ‘fake bullets’ at the duo, Veronica misses.

 

As JD runs after Kurt Veronica starts to realize that the bullets were real and they had just killed two more people.

 

Veronica finally leaves JD for good and he goes insane, he comes up with a plan to murder all the students during a school rally. Veronica tricks him into thinking that she killed herself, and he plants explosives in the boiler room, which is under the bleachers. Veronica fights JD and after she finally gets the main explosive away from the school, she hugs it to her body to reduce the damage to the school. JD follows her and he takes the explosive away from her and she backs away from him. While Veronica tries to convince JD to put the bomb down and  go with her, he confesses his undying love for her, by singing ‘Our love is God.’ After JD dies his gruesome death Veronica reenters the school and confesses how the school is corrupted and how everyone needs to change.

 

“Killing himself was unnecessary, because if he did go to jail for his crimes his father would be able to bail him out,” Forrester.

 

The show ends with Veronica leaving with ‘Martha Dumptruck’, the most bullied girl in the school, and they decide to watch a movie with a happy ending, and they forget the drastic events that just happened.
