Alien life has been confirmed!… maybe. Or at least there have been strange occurrences recently observed that may possibly indicate alien life. Still, the thought that we may be sharing the universe with other-worldly life is an exciting prospect.
In a study published by Ermanno F. Borra and Eric Trottier of Laval University in Quebec, a study of 2.5 million stars showed peculiar behaviour in the modulations of 234 of the stars. Due to the nature of the modulation signals, the authors have surmised that the source of the signals may be the result of extraterrestrial lifeforms. “We find that the detected signals have exactly the shape of an ETI signal predicted in the previous publication and are therefore in agreement with this hypothesis,” say Borra and Trottier.
However, this is a far cry from a definite confirmation of little green men. The authors themselves acknowledged that more work and research would need to be performed to give any validity to their hypothesis.
Despite the ambiguity of the paper, there are those who are always excited for contact. Ian McLean (12) is one such individual. “I believe in aliens. Do I believe they’ve come to Earth? Probably not, no. But I’m down [for them to contact]. It should happen. If it’s like War of the Worlds, then I’d like for it to happen when I’m like 80. Vaporization would be a good way to go,” says McLean.Though it seems that McLean would prefer a hostile takeover, most would seemingly be happy with a more peaceful affair.
Whatever may be the results of this paper, contact or not, there are still questions posed by it, questions that come up with every mention of messages from extraterrestrial life. What does it mean for us if this really is a sign of sentient alien life? What if it’s an intentional message? What would they expect of us if they are making contact? These questions and more are on the minds of all who believe and hope for a sign from beyond the stars.
