Putting Art Where You Park

Last month, a handful of HOSA students participated in a fundraising event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The students spent their day painting parking spots around the school and socializing in groups. The event was fun, a new opportunity for students to connect and get to know each other. is

“It was fun because I got to spend time with a friend of mine…We were there for a few hours but it was a good time” Shelsy Pineda (10) said.

Pineda said she enjoyed the event because it helped her explore her artistic side. She felt as if the experience gave her the ability t0 accomplish more in art. She also said that she enjoyed participating because the event went towards a good cause.

The students submitted ideas for their pieces and then decided on designs. Some students painted scenery, some painted patterns, and some painted designs focused on quotes.

“What we painted was…a desert thing and it had really warm tones. We wrote “we ride at dawn” on the painting. We thought it was a cute saying” Pineda said.

Ruby Morales (12) also attended the event. She said that she liked painting and would go to a similar event.

“It was fun. The most fun part for me was just getting paint everywhere” Morales said.

Health science teacher Mrs. Lambdin supervised the event. She enjoyed providing her HOSA students with an opportunity to become closer.

“It was [fun]. Especially for HOSA students, it gave us a little period to get to know each other, and sometimes we don’t always get that time in class or during HOSA meetings” Lambdin said.

Mrs. Lambdin also helped paint her own parking spot along with other students. Her design was a variety of green and blue shapes.

“My parking spot, by the CTE, I had 5 or 6 students helping paint that spot. I was just bouncing back and forth between spots to distribute supplies and things like that” Lambdin said.

Painting the parking spots was a fun time for everyone involved, and the 7 hours spent certainly went towards something good.
