Pennies for Patients is starting back up again, so start saving up! The school is participating in two of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s fundraiser which raises money for blood cancers. This year, HOSA has formed a group to do the walk hosted by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society called Light the Night which is on October 25 in Knoxville.
Each year the school takes part of the Pennies for Patients school fundraiser. Last year, we were able to raise nearly $8,000 for the charity and were the fourth overall school and the first high school for fundraising in the state. This year, the goal is to raise $25,000. There are some amazing activities coming up in which the proceeds will be going towards Pennies for Patients; so look out for those because they’ll be starting up in the next month or two.
You can even make an online page and receive donations that way. You can create an account under your name within the school, so that it goes towards the school’s overall donations. If you raise a hundred dollars or more than you’ll receive a certificate, that’ll look good for college applications, and a t-shirt. The top twenty fundraising students will be served a lunch from Olive Garden as a token of appreciation for the effort and time spent trying to help others.
The leukemia and lymphoma society will put the proceeds towards research to finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and many other blood cancers. It will also help families pay for treatments and medical expenses. Try to help as much as you can.
