Dream come true

With competition for jobs being at an all time high, college education is almost a necessity.

On November 9th, 2015, Alexis Lankford committed to her dream school, Tennessee Wesleyan College. However, Lankford also got the privilege and honor of committing to the school’s track team, which has been ranked on a national level.

Lankford has ran competitively since 6th grade. She has also qualified for two state meets as a high school athlete. She was not able to complete to her best ability during her junior year due to an injury.

“Committing to the team was a dream come true. This time last year, I didn’t see my running career going past high school. The feelings I had were unexplainable when everything started to become real”, said Lankford.

Lankford’s journey in running has transformed her. “As a freshman, I didn’t have much confidence in my ability. I am thankful to have a coach that pushes me and a team that is always so supportive. Honestly, just pushing myself to do my best and not giving up has gotten me to where I am today”, said Lankford.

Her coach believes that she is capable of extending her career beyond a collegiate level. Lankford said, “I hope to finish out senior year strong heading back to state. I want to lower my 200m and 400m times.”

Lankford also decided to attend TWC for the academics.

“I have always heard good things about TWC. One day, I got a call from the coach and since then I hoped that everything would work out and I could go there. They have great programs and an amazing track team”, said Lankford.

She is exciting to attend TWC in the fall of 2016. Her family, coach, and teammates are all very proud of her and hope the best for her bright future.
