34 years ago today President Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest by John Hinckley Jr. He was able to walk into the hospital under his own power and even made jokes to his wife and the surgeons before the surgery. As soon as the next day he was able to resume some of his presidential responsibilities and was back in the white house by April 11.
