As we begin on the downslope of the school year, many students are already geared up and ready to move on to summer vacation. We have already gotten through the first half of the year, so the rest of the school year will fly by in a second. But before students start planning their summer travels, there are a few end-of-the-year events that need to be kept in mind.
Prom and Graduation are the two biggest events of any school year. These two milestones are a turning point for all students that are involved. Prom and graduation are the two events that most like to reminisce upon when remembering their high school experience. So, to make sure that people get to experience the best out of both occasions, some event details should be clarified.
Prom is the pinnacle of the high school experience. The memories made on prom night will be reminisced on for years after the occasion. Prom is meant to be an enjoyable experience, but before students can enjoy the prom, they need to plan accordingly for the night.
The prom will be held on April 12, from 7 pm to 10 pm at Jackson Terminal. The venue is mostly indoors, but there will be a small patio area accessible to students. This year’s theme is the Gilded Glamour Gala, which entails lots of gold and deep emeralds. Ticket prices begin at $50 through March 6th, then change to $65 through March 27th, and will end at $75 through the ticket purchasing cut-off, which is April 3rd.
The event’s guest policy remains the same as last year: If a student wishes to bring a guest who does not attend LCHS, the student must complete the green permission form and include a photocopy of their guest’s ID. The form must be completed before the guest’s ticket is bought. The guest must be in the age group between a 9th grader and age 20. There is no official prom website, but if there is any new information developed about the event, updates will be posted on the school’s social media.
While prom might be the highlight of high school for some people, graduation is the conclusion of not only the year but also, for one-fourth of the student body, their entire high school experience. Graduation day is representative of all the hard work and effort that the senior class has put into their future throughout their high school career. It is the close of one chapter and the beginning of another. Graduation is an extremely important day, which is why it is equally important that all students have accurate information.
The official date and time of the graduation ceremony is May 9th at 7 pm. Students participating in the ceremony are expected to be there at 5:30 pm. To ensure that the ceremony runs smoothly, there will be graduation practice on the morning of May 9th at 9 am. If a student is absent from the graduation practice, they will not be allowed to walk at the official graduation ceremony. There have been reminders sent out through Parent Square throughout the year as well as several meetings to provide both parents and students with necessary information about graduation. Tickets do not need to be purchased for graduation, it is a free event. It is recommended that students participating in graduation dress appropriately under their gowns. Students cannot add embellishments to the caps and cannot wear cords or sashes that are not on the approved list.
In the case of a weather mishap on graduation day, the ceremony will be moved to the next morning, May 10th. If there is any more information sent out about graduation, it will be sent through the Parent Square app, so any students who are worried about further updates need to be sure that they are signed up to receive Parent Square alerts.
As the school year winds down, students need to be prepared for these milestone events. Prom and Graduation are moments to celebrate hard work, friendships, and new beginnings. By staying informed and planning, everyone can ensure that these occasions are memorable and stress-free.
