Cheers erupted from the stands as the Lenoir City High School Marching Band claimed the coveted Grand Master title at the Alcoa Marching Competition on October 26th. The band’s victory marks a historic moment for the school and its dedicated musicians, capping months of hard work and countless hours of practice.

The competition, which attracts high school bands from across the region, is known for its precise judging and fierce competition. Lenoir City’s band, under the guidance of Band Director Zach Slimp, delivered a stunning performance that not only wowed the judges but also captivated the audience with intricate formations and powerful musical renditions. The senior drum major, Ciara Davis (12th), describes what this experience means to her.

“The energy was just electric. I would say it definitely kind of feels like a payoff because we worked really hard this year. It’s just kind of a representation of the hard work and dedication we have put in,” Davis said.

The victory was especially significant for the band after enduring challenges such as long rehearsals and balancing schoolwork with practice. The dedication from the students and leadership from the staff proved instrumental in securing their win. The band’s performance was a testament to teamwork and perseverance.

Parents, supporters, and alumni gathered to celebrate the band’s success, many of whom traveled to witness the competition firsthand. Ciara Davis describes the excitement this achievement adds to her senior year.

I definitely think getting Grand Champs was huge, like this memory, for me, just being able to look at everyone’s faces and watching them smile and cry and be happy. I think that was a big highlight.
I think I’ve been able to make some new friends and get closer to people that I otherwise wouldn’t have been,” Davis said.

For Lenoir City High School, this victory at the Alcoa Marching Competition is more than just a trophy; it’s a symbol of the band’s hard work, unity, and love for music. The students, staff, and community look forward to celebrating this win and continuing the tradition of excellence in music.
