Time Hop History (10/23)

October 23, 1989

25 years ago today, an explosion caused by a gas leak killed 23 people in a Phillips 66 Chemical Complex in Pasadena, Texas. The plant did not comply with all of the safety codes and did not have scheduled maintenance done leading to the explosion. 85,000 pounds of flammable gas exploded with the force of two and a half tons of dynamite. In addition to the 23 deaths, 130 were seriously injured in a very preventable tragedy.
