Screen Time is Me Time
Our phones hold so much stuff that they are normally considered the most valuable thing we own. We have memories, communication, and personalization all in that little box of light. If you have an iPhone you have the option to be able to see exactly what you consume your time on your phone on and how long you’re on it. Some people spend 4 or 5 hours on their phone, and some spend 10 or 12 hours; I happen to lean more towards the higher end of the scale, and I’ll be honest, I’d consider myself addicted to it.
Caitlin Lantz, 10, shared what they use their phone for, “I use it mostly for social media and to text my friends” said Lantz.
Because phones are such a big part of today’s society, it can be hard to imagine life without them. With Covid in the air and staying safe, it’s been harder to see our friends in person so we’ve resorted to texting and calling which has caused us to rely on our phones a lot.
“It would probably be really boring, since I wouldn’t be able to interact with my friends unless we were together,” said Lantz.
In our day and age, we are so reliant on our phones we can’t picture how we’d spend our free time. Some people get their phones taken away by their parents, or are just able to go hours entertaining themselves with something else. Everyone has their own ways of viewing this idea.
Meaghan Mulligan, 9, says what she thinks about living without phones, “I think that a lot of people don’t like the idea of having no phones, but I think it would do a lot of people good, especially myself. I think that life without phones would be a little more difficult in slow, but more people would be social and interactive. When these devices are taken away people start talking to each other in person and reaching out in person, which develops social skills. I think that it would be hard to research things or interact with friends that live far away, but overall I think no phones would be a great change,” said Mulligan.
Do you spend all that time on your phone doing useful things? Do you just keep up with the news of today, recent trends, or simply just occupy yourself? Phones have so much use in them that we have grown to be used to involving them with our everyday activities. It’s a crazy lifestyle when you think about how attached we truly are.
