19 years ago today man went head to head with machine and lost. Gary Kasparov, the chess world champion, tested his wits against “Deep Blue”, a supercomputer capable of computing 200 million moves per second. Six games were played between Kasparov and Deep Blue and all at the same time. In the end Kasparov won three games tied two and lost one. Even though Kasparov technically won he was still bested at least once by a computer proving that machines can be capable of extraordinary things.
