Homecoming Spotlight: Alexandra McNabb

Homecoming court is an opportunity that only 10 girls get to experience every year, and Alexandra McNabb (12) is one of the lucky few who are being recognized this year. She devotes herself to her school, community, and has been involved in numerous ways. McNabb has joined several athletic teams, such as basketball, soccer, and track. She is also in NHS, Panther Crew, HOSA, Anchor Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and SHAC. McNabb explains what being chosen for the court means to her.

“I am very honored to be nominated because we have a really good group of girls from my grade, and I love them all. Just the fact that people thought I should be picked was really big because I thought there were a lot of girls who would have been amazing candidates. So, it was very sweet that everyone picked me,” McNabb said.

One of the most memorable parts of the homecoming game is watching each stunning candidate walk out onto the field in various jaw-dropping dresses. With a rise in detailed gowns and colors that pop this year, the possibilities are endless for what the girls could choose. McNabb’s look is sure to make her stand out on the field and is guaranteed to captivate the crowd.

“I have found my dress already, and I tried to do something with bright colors because I really like those on me. It is like an orchid purple and metallic, and I thought it would look really pretty out there on the field,” McNabb said.

McNabb plans to attend UTC and major in exercise science and physical therapy. Her goal is to be a pediatric physical therapist and get her doctorate. She talks about why working with and helping young kids is her dream.

“My mom is a teacher, so I have heard so many stories about kids she has had and how rough their home life is. It inspired me to want to work with little kids, too. It really kind of changed my perspective because you never really know what the person beside you is going through. Since I had heard those stories from her, I just always make sure that I am kind to everybody because you never know what’s actually going on with them,” McNabb said.

This career path will bring out her natural gift for caring, just like her mother has in the classroom. McNabb has a heart for the little ones and has grown up being able to see what it is like to be such a positive influence in young lives. She will always influence others to make them shine, and high school has played a part in her own self-expression.

“[High school] has given me many opportunities to get out of my comfort zone. I used to be more on the shy side, and now I have definitely gotten out of my shell. You just get to make so many connections that you get to keep for the rest of your life and maybe bump into some of these people later on,” McNabb said.

With her last year of high school, McNabb has big plans before she moves on to her college career. She wasn’t able to play basketball during last year’s season due to an injury and knows what she will do with her newly found freedom.

“I am going to go all out for my last season of basketball because I was cut off all of last year. I am going to be cleared in November, so I am definitely ready to be healthy and play. I want to finish it out strong because it has been such a mental struggle being out for so long. I have been surrounded by the best people who are always rooting for me, so everyone has helped me push through and get to this point,” McNabb said.
