Homecoming Spotlight: Annie Alvo

Homecoming Spotlight: Annie Alvo

Every fall, students gather together to celebrate one of the most spirited and anticipated events of the school year: Homecoming. More than just a dance, Homecoming is a week filled with fun and memories in the making. From themed dress-up days to the big game under the lights, it’s a time when school spirit takes center stage and everyone has a chance to feel part of something bigger. This year, senior Annie Alvo is helping lead the charge, bringing her energy and enthusiasm to the Homecoming court. Known for her involvement around campus and positive attitude, Annie is excited to be part of an event that brings together so many people.

Alvo has been involved all around the school.

“I’ve been involved in the school in many ways, including with the clubs and sports I play,” Alvo said.

Her list of commitments is both long and impressive, including: Panther Crew Claw leader, National Honor Society, Student Health Advisory Council, journalism as Video Director, Panther Athlete Council, and captain of the volleyball team.

Despite her busy schedule, Alvo always finds time to give back to the school.

“I really appreciate giving my time and energy towards the school and helping out as best as possible,” Alvo said.

After high school, Alvo plans on attending Tennessee Tech University, where she hopes to either play on the volleyball team or serve as a team manager. Academically, she plans to major in psychology and minor in news media, with dreams of becoming a crime scene analyst or criminal psychologist.

For Alvo, family is one of her top motivators. When asked what one of the things that drives her to be involved in the school is, Alvo mentioned her younger sister, Allie Alvo.

“I want to be a role model to her and be someone she’s proud to be family with,” Alvo said.

Being nominated for Homecoming Court is a meaningful moment for Annie.

“It means a whole lot. It really makes me feel proud to be a Panther and very grateful for my senior class for seeing me as somebody who is worth the vote,” Alvo said.

As for what she’ll be wearing, Alvo shared details about not one, but two dresses.

“My first dress is a long, brown silk dress with pretty layover lace. As for the Homecoming dance, I have a very simple red dress that I’ll dress up with jewelry.” Alvo said.

Reflecting on her time in high school, Alvo hopes the legacy she leaves behind is simple yet powerful,

“Be yourself. There’s really no point in being someone else. Like, dance in the hallway. Accidentally slip on a biscuit walking through the F Wing. Rally up the student section and get no energy back, but be the energy anyway. That’s what matters,” Alvo said.

When asked if there’s a quote she lives by, she referenced one from the play Hamilton,

“What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.”

Through all of her leadership roles, involvement, and school spirit, Annie Alvo has planted seeds of kindness, energy, and authenticity that will only continue to grow long after graduation.  As Alvo approaches the final chapters of her senior year, there’s no doubt that her passion, positivity, and leadership will continue to inspire others: whether on the court, in the classroom, or simply being the energy in the student section.
