Homecoming Spotlight: Kadence Carr

Every year, homecoming brings a whirlwind of emotion, especially for those on the homecoming court. For them, it is a culmination of excitement, joy, nervousness, and anticipation. For Kadence Carr (12), being nominated means the world. It means being recognized for the powerful influence she has on the school and the message that she sends, not only with her words, but with her actions. Carr has had a lasting impact on the school, playing a crucial role in a multitude of different clubs and extracurricular activities around the school. Specifically, she is in Singers, SHAC, Panther Crew, and is a representative for teaching as a profession.

“High school has given me a lot of friends, and a lot of people that I love and I care about and that I’m grateful for, and that I’ll continue to have relationships with outside of high school,” Carr said.

Carr’s time at this school has not only shaped her academic life but has also shaped her as a person, enabling her to build lasting relationships and friendships with her peers. These are relationships that she cherishes and hopes will extend beyond the limits of high school. As Carr sets her eyes towards the future, she explains her goals in pursuing music education.

“After high school, I plan to attend Pellissippi and be a part of their choir and go for music education and then transfer over to UT after that,” Carr said.

Carr has an incredible amount of ambition and determination for life after high school. With this, she sometimes leans on the words of those who inspire her to keep going and be who she truly is.

“One thing Mr. Cross says a lot is ‘be where your feet are.’ Live in the moment. Be present exactly where you are, and you can think about things later,” Carr said.

It’s quotes like these that speak to her character and her headspace as she navigates her senior year. For her, every day is an opportunity to be kind, and every moment is a moment that could be used to spread positivity.

“I hope the impact I’ve had is…just to be kind and don’t treat anyone the way you wouldn’t want to be treated…just be nice and just spread God’s love,” Carr said.

While Carr values kindness and positivity to the highest degree, she also embraces the joy and happiness that surround the homecoming dance and spirit week.

“I’m really excited for spirit week and dressing up…I have picked out a dress, my dress is orange, and it’s a mermaid tail dress with sequins,” Carr said.

Being nominated for the homecoming court is an incredible honor, and it was Carr’s kindness and positivity that got her there. Her high school career is marked by a grave number of achievements and spreading extensive amounts of love and positivity. Her nomination is just another confirmation that she has a real impact on her peers and a legacy of kindness and leadership that will follow her after high school.
