It’s homecoming season, and that means it’s time to commemorate the homecoming court. Among them is Maydin Perez (12), whose involvement and dedication to the school have given her a well-earned spot on the court.
Perez is the captain of the tennis team, showing leadership on and off the court. In addition to athletic commitments such as the role of the tennis team captain, Perez contributes heavily to A/V production and is a member of the athletic council. Perez is looking forward to the upcoming events, especially bringing school spirit and passion to our school.
“I’m really excited just to be a part of [upcoming events] and trying to help the school spirit more and hyping people up, which is why I’m in A/V,” Perez said.
Being nominated for homecoming means a lot to Perez. To her, it represents the connections she’s made during her time at LCHS and her feelings of accomplishment by bringing people closer together and making our school feel more like a community.
“It means to me that I have a lot of friends in different [groups], and so for me it helps me have a sense of joining a lot of different groups of people together and uniting. Because I’m not just one person, I have a lot of different personality traits, and I have a friend for each of those traits, so I feel like I get to join our group a little more closely together,” Perez said.
One of the biggest decisions when it comes to homecoming is what to wear. Perez hasn’t picked out a dress yet, but she has a beautiful one in mind.
“I haven’t picked out a dress, but I’m hoping, this year, maybe one of my mom’s dresses. I may be aiming for a green dress, because that’s my favorite color and it complements everything a lot better,” Perez said.
As a senior, Perez hopes to leave a lasting impact at our school by shaping the everyday experiences of those around her. She hopes to bring positivity into people’s lives and inspire students to try new things.
“I hope I have made people’s experience in high school a little more positive. I hope to make people laugh, and I hope to introduce new ideas to people, because I’m always about trying new things,” Perez said.
Perez has some words of wisdom to share. Inspired by her favorite artist, she wants to spread authenticity and self-expression. She encourages students to be themselves and pursue their passions, especially in artistic fields.
“A specific quote I always live by, by my favorite artist, Tyler the Creator, and he’s all about being yourself and not caring what you do. And if you want to be in an art field, just do what you want to do and don’t let other people’s opinions put you down,” Perez said.
Perez is extremely motivated, and the desire to spread school spirit and gain a sense of community keeps her going.
“For me, it’s to gain a sense of community in this school, because I feel like we’ve lost a bit of our school spirit ever since COVID. And I want to help be a part of regaining our school spirit and having a stronger identity again,” Perez said.
As her final year of high school comes to an end, she will need to decide what to pursue in her future. Perez already has a clear and passionate idea.
“I really, really, really want to work on movies. I want to be either a director or an editor, or a script writer. I don’t mind what I do; I just want to be a part of the filmmaking process. My main goal is to be a director,” Perez said.
High school has taught Perez numerous things, and with all the experiences she’s had, she would like to share a few words of wisdom for the classes below her.
“High school taught me to not be mean and to be who you are and try not to hide yourself, and just be open. People aren’t gonna like you and that’s okay, as long as you’re yourself and you’re happy, that’s all that really matters,” Perez said.
Being nominated for homecoming court isn’t just about the title, it’s about being involved and spreading school spirit. Perez did a wonderful job at displaying all the qualities that make her an amazing candidate for the court.
