A Summer to Remember

Every summer, hundreds of teens from nearby high schools gather for Summer Young Life Camp. It is an unforgettable adventure where friendships are built and faith is strengthened. Students gather to sing worship songs and share their Christian faith. This summer they went to a 6 day camp at Crooked Creek Ranch Colorado.

Gabriel Russel(11) has been attending Young Life events since he was a freshman. For Russel, an average day consisted of going to breakfast, after which they would have a fun competition, have lunch, go to club, dinner and at end the day they would have a different special event each night. In between each event, students would have free time to spend hanging around the camp. Although the daily schedule at camp was filled with activities, it also offered plenty of time to connect with others and relax. Russel said his favorite activities at camp were club and the volleyball tournament.

For many, the camp brought new experiences. Such as Ethan Rodriguez(10) who got to attend camp for the first time. His week was filled with hiking, exploring and spending time with friends at the lake.

“We went on a 2 mile hike. There was a big lake that we went to at the end,” Rodriguez said.

He jokingly expressed that the only thing he would change was that his parents were there. Rodriguez is already looking forward to being more involved and stated that he plans on continuing to go to events. He named Hunter as one of the leaders he connected with.

“He’s cool,” Rodriguez said.

For Russel, camp was more than just a time to gather but also a time to worship, specifically during the clubs.

“We would sing songs, play games, and learn about God,” Russell said.

Russel expressed that he would also love to continue to attend Young Life events. Russel also spoke happily of his favorite leader, Morgan.

“He matches my energy,” Russel said.

Whether you’re a newcomer or experienced camper, you are  guaranteed to have a blast at Young Life events! With a new theme each day, tons of activities like ziplining and horseback riding each day brings a new adventure! Young life continues to be a place to make fun memories and praise God.

Both Rodriguez and Russel agreed that the trip to Colorado was a memorable one, filled with laughter, friendship, and new experiences. They’re already looking forward to the next Young Life trip, which is the weekend fall Young Life camp. So whether you’re looking for a new adventure or a place to connect with friends, Young Life is a great place to be!
