Where Dedication Meets the Green

Treva Kesterson (10) is a player of the Lenoir City High School Golf team. Kesterson got into playing golf through her grandpa as he used to play. Now playing for four years and nine games into this season, Kesterson has set a plethora of goals for herself to achieve this year.

[My] goals for this year would be to make it to golf districts and get better with my golf game,” Kesterson said.

These are phenomenal goals she’s set and put her mind to. Kesterson has stated wanting to accomplish getting better and eventually receiving a full scholarship for golf, and these will surely get her there. But has she achieved any of these goals yet?

“Yes I have. I’ve achieved hitting the ball better [and] controlling my temper,” Kesterson said.

Not having yet completed the season, but cutting it close, what could her top three highlights of golf be so far?

My top three highlights would be birding my first hole in a competition, getting first place in a competition, and creating new friendships,” Kesterson said.

So many games still left to play, which one could she be most ecstatic about?
“[I’m most excited for the] district tournament,” Kesterson said.

Playing in so many games, she made wonderful memories with players —teammates and opponents— that stood out to her.

Probably playing with Aubree Jones in my last match, but I don’t really talk to any of my other teammates other than the girls. And it’s always nice to have a kind and truthful opponent,” Kesterson said.

Even though she’s played for such a long time, she believes there are still areas in her game that need work. Although, she does have a way to deal with any mental challenges she might face while playing.

Areas of my game that still need work would probably be, driving, putting, and consistency. . . If I hit a bad shot, I just forget about it and move on,” Kesterson said.

The season comes to an end October 6th, so she has a set of goals for the rest of the season as well as some excitement.

“Goals for the rest of the season would be shooting in the 40’s and just getter better with the game. . . I am most excited to keep playing and watching myself improve,” Kesterson said.

Golf is a peaceful sport to play, that being one of her favorite parts about it. Her dedication to getting better is admirable, and the reason she got into it was wholesome. Kesterson has so much ahead of her.
