As school starts back up, many high school seniors find themselves participating in the game of senior assassin. A game consisting of stealth, strategy, and a good poker face. The objective of this tradition is to get out classmates with water guns, and the last person standing claims the cash prize from entry fees. The water gun battle intensifies as the day progresses, with everyone strategizing and evading water blasts.
Some players like to hide in the shadows and wait patiently until the right time to strike, while others take the aggressive approach, blasting their way through the chaos. But one thing is for sure, being prepared is the most important part of the game. Eva Mizer (12) would know.
“I keep a water gun in my purse all the time. So I’m always strapped,” Mizer said.
Mizer has already gotten out her target, ready to strike on her next. She chose the aggressive path, getting out her classmate in the nick of time. Conversely, Finnley Reynolds (12) chose to play defense, getting out of the game early on. When he thought he was safest, that was the moment he was eliminated.
“I was talking to somebody at the football game about how I was gonna be safe for a week, and as soon as I got off the floor, I got out,” Reynolds said.
For most of the seniors, the thrill is what makes the game so fun and intriguing. Not knowing who, when, or where it could all go down. Watching your back everywhere you go. But the seniors don’t do it only for the fun or the thrill but to be involved . When asked “why participate in Senior Assassin” Mizer and Reynolds both talked about how it made them feel included.
“I just think it’s so fun in that it’s something that everyone can be included in, and I just think it’s a great way for our grade to, like, come together and do something together,” Mizer said.
Senior Assassin isn’t just a game. It is a chance to try something new. A way to come together. Whether you play defensively or offensively, it’s about stepping outside your comfort zone and making memories you’ll talk about long after graduation. It’s the laughter after a failed ambush, the late-night stakeouts with your team, the whispered strategies in crowded hallways. It’s the thrill, the chaos, the bonding — and in the end, win or lose, it’s one of those rare high school moments where everyone gets to be part of something unforgettable.
