A goodbye to journalism and high school
Turning the Page

As May 9th creeps around the corner, I’ve spent more and more time reflecting on my high school experience and all of the memories (good and bad) that I’ve made.

Fall 2021 I was a nervous, shy freshman who dreaded coming to school. While coming out of that shell definitely hasn’t been easy, I can say that LCHS has made me the confident and outgoing person I am.

Spring semester of freshman year, I took a brand new class called Intro to Journalism. Mrs. Renker taught me and the rest of the very small class the basics of newspaper writing and media, so as the year came to a close I submitted my application to Journalism. Little did 14-year-old me know how much that class would shape the next 3 years of my life. I started off as a staff writer, learning about design, interviews, writing, and working alongside a team. Eventually I became Junior Editor, and then Co-editor in Chief of the yearbook. I have been a part of the creation of 3 amazing books: We Are, Sunrise to Sunset, and ** *** ** ** ****. Working alongside some of the most hardworking and fun people I have ever met has been a huge part of making my high school experience more enjoyable.

To Mrs. Wallace, thank you for being such a good mentor to me for 4 years. You have always seen my potential even when I didn’t, and provided guidance and advice in all aspects of my life. You will always be my school mom and I am so grateful to have been in your program.

As for LCHS — it feels so surreal to say goodbye after 4 years. It truly does fly by before you know it, and I am so glad I got to spend some of the most pivotal moments of my life here. I am filled with so much gratitude for my experience here and will carry these memories with me wherever I head next.
