A Bittersweet Goodbye

A Bittersweet Goodbye

Well, this is it. The final semester of high school. It’s hard to believe there’s no next semester, “What classes do we have together?”, or even just seeing my favorite teachers in the hallways. After spending all these years together, we’re going to be apart. But despite it, high school has allowed me to have some of the best people I know in my life, and for that, I’m grateful.

It’s crazy how much someone can change in four years. When I first got to the high school, I was nervous. I had fallen off with the majority of my friends from middle school due to COVID. But my freshman year, I had a class with this one girl who introduced me to all of her friends, and little did I know, they would become my best friends. The thought of us becoming strangers worries me, but I hope the bond we’ve formed keeps us connected in some way. They helped me grow and change into the person I am today, and I will forever be grateful. I know we all joked about being ready to graduate, but as the time to do so gets closer, the more bittersweet it becomes.

I also wanted to give a special thank you to Coach Yoakum. He has supported me in ways no other teacher has. From advice on life, relationships, careers, adulthood, and even choosing what I should have for lunch, he has truly made a big impact on my life as he’s helped me out of my introverted shell. And for that, I am forever grateful. Teachers like him make the biggest difference in the school and truly change how the students learn.

When people told me high school was the fastest four years of your life, they weren’t kidding. Enjoy it while you’re here, make new friends, and be more involved. I’ll miss it and all the memories I’ve made. Even though this chapter of our lives is ending, a new one is just starting. So, goodbye Lenoir City High School, and all of the ups and downs that came with it. On to new adventures and better things.
