Homecoming Court Spotlight: Davis Boals

Homecoming Court Spotlight: Davis Boals

For many high school students, homecoming is one of the most exciting times of the year. From the big game to the dance, it’s a week filled with tradition, celebration, and school spirit. But for Davis Boals (12), this homecoming is extra special—he’s been nominated for the prestigious homecoming court, a moment that marks a highlight in his high school journey.

As a student at Lenoir City High School, Boals has always been an active member of the school community. Whether it’s through sports, clubs, or extracurricular activities, he has made a name for himself as someone who is involved and dedicated.

“Yeah, so I actually moved to Lenoir City when I was a sophomore. I went to Loudon my freshman year, and it was a great move. I love Lenoir City. I love the people here. My mom’s actually a teacher here, so being here with her is pretty cool. I play basketball at Lenoir City. I’ve run track and cross country, and I’ve been a part of so many clubs here: FCA, national honor society, singers, and just anything like that really I’ve been a part of a lot,” Boals said.

But beyond his achievements, it’s the people at this school who have made the biggest impact on his life. When asked about someone who has inspired him, Boals didn’t hesitate to mention Jordan Cross, the LCHS choral teacher.

“I think someone at this school who has inspired me is Mr. Cross. He’s really taught me to just kind of be where my feet are and enjoy every moment. My advice to freshman would be to just be a part of everything, do everything and just do everything to the best of your ability,” Boals said.

That inspiration has helped shape him into the person he is today—someone who is not only well-liked but also respected by his peers. And that respect was reflected in his homecoming nomination. Finding out that he was selected for the court was a moment he wouldn’t soon forget.

“I was happy, and I felt really supported by my peers to know that they would select me for something like that. I thought it was cool because when you’re at the stage of being a freshman, sometimes you consider how it would be sick to be on homecoming court, and now that I actually am, it’s a cool experience,” Boals said.

His nomination was met with enthusiasm from his friends and family, who couldn’t be prouder of him. From high-fives in the hallways to heartfelt messages of support, he’s felt the love from those around him.

“They’ve just been supportive and proud of me, like my parents are proud that I made it and happy for me, and then my friends as well. All my friends are on the homecoming court. Those are all my all my guys, and we’re all just proud of each other and glad that we can do this together,” Boals said.

While some students may have seen it coming, Boals admits he wasn’t expecting the nomination.

“Well, I mean, a little bit, it’s always kind of a surprise but not entirely. I kinda had a feeling that I might be on it, but at the same time, it’s like, you never know, so yeah, it was definitely a little surprising,” Boals said.

As he soaks in this experience, he hopes to leave behind a positive legacy. More than anything, he wants people to remember him not just for being on the court but for the impact he has had on his school community.

“I hope that people can get, some positivity from me and just, you know, remember that no matter what, good things can happen and, just take advantage of every moment, and I hope the people remember me as someone who was positive in their life and a good encouragement,” Boals said.

With homecoming festivities in full swing, Boals is making the most of every moment. From the pep rallies to the game, he’s embracing all the excitement that comes with this honor. But what comes next once the homecoming celebrations are over? He has his sights set on future goals, whether they involve academics, sports, or personal growth.

“After homecoming, I plan on finishing out senior year, and I look forward to graduation. After graduation, I’m entering into the military, so I will be joining the Air Force and hopefully going to the University of Tennessee. So lots of exciting things, lots of great opportunities,” Boals said.

Of course, the big question remains—what if he wins homecoming king? While the thought is exciting, he remains grateful just to be part of this experience. Still, if he does take home the crown, he already has a plan for how he’d celebrate.

“Oh, if I win homecoming king, I already told them I’m gonna get, you know, super hype, but I’m gonna wear that crown on the bench at the basketball game. I gotta let everybody know who the king is if I win,” Boals said.

Regardless of the outcome, Boals is already a winner in the eyes of his friends, family, and classmates. His positive attitude, school spirit, and genuine character have made him someone worth recognizing.

As the homecoming festivities continue, one thing is clear: whether or not he wins the title, Boals has left a lasting impact on his school. And for him, that’s what truly matters.
