Homecoming can be one of the most memorable moments of high school, especially for the gentlemen nominated to be on homecoming court with their peers and friends. Matthew Deacon (12) was selected to be a member of the court this year; he shares his experiences on the court as well as his interests in his time at Lenoir City High School.
Matt will be playing in the basketball game against McMinn Central before homecoming king is announced with multiple of his fellow court members playing with him. He also enjoyed Mr. Baldwin’s AV Production class and can be found making videos with his friends for the school’s YouTube page or behind the scenes helping to create the videos they brainstorm, film, and post.
“I play basketball for the school and am a part of LCTV, shout out to Mr. Baldwin. Also, I have participated in men’s chorus and concert choir with Mr. Cross,” Deacon said.
The fun activities that the homecoming court gets to do together help them bond closer as friends. Matthew talks about one of his favorite moments, which was the Christmas Parade downtown. The court handed out candy to the public as they rode on haybales through crowds of family, friends, and strangers.
“I really enjoyed the parade that we were all together even though it was pretty cold. It was just a lot of fun being able to hang out with all of my friends in that setting and throw out candy,” Deacon said.
Being on homecoming court also reminds the members that they are loved and appreciated within the school and community. Matthew recounts the moment he recognized this.
“Homecoming court has taught me that more people are fond of me than I know of, and I guess I have had an impact around the school. It was cool to see how many people supported and saw me,” Deacon said.
Matt is excited to represent his school on the homecoming court and experience the joys and opportunities he and his friends will have together.
These experiences have a lasting impact on court members and can be memorable moments for members of the court to look back on in their high school careers. Matthew has prioritized enjoying his teenage years. He has tried to live his time at LCHS to the fullest. In his time in high school, he has worked to take classes that will benefit him and his future.
“After high school, I plan to go to Pellissipi State College. I plan to major in radiology and to try and become an X-ray or MRI technician,” Deacon said.
The honor of being nominated for homecoming court may have been somewhat surprising for Matthew, his kindness and appreciation for his peers helped him stand out and be nominated for this amazing opportunity. Hopefully, Matthew will look back on his experiences on the court in the future and admire the pastimes he had with his friends on homecoming court.
