Homecoming is an exciting time for everyone, especially the ladies selected to be recognized as members of the homecoming court. Ava Lawhorn (12) is one of the honorable girls chosen by her peers to experience this opportunity as a member of the court.
Ava has been involved in the Journalism program for three years. Her dedication and talent in Journalism have led to her position as Newspaper Editor for the past two years. She has also been a part of the Panther Crew and loves welcoming new students to LCHS. She hopes that she is remembered for her generosity, and through her example, she hopes others are compelled to share more kindness in their lives.
“I hope people think of me as someone who is kind and who is always wanting to help and to uplift. I hope that people see me as a very genuine person and a friend. I just hope that I’ve made a positive impact on other people in my four years here,” Lawhorn said.
After graduation, Ava plans to attend Pelissippi State University for two years. Once she has completed two years at Pelissippi, she has ambitions to transfer to either the University of Tennessee Chattanooga or Apllanchian State with a major in Journalism. Ava is grateful for the opportunities high school has given her to help determine the path for her future, and she is thankful for the friendships she has fostered in her time at LCHS.
“I know that I’m not going to be able to have these four years again and just knowing that if I don’t stay involved, then I’m gonna wish that I was. [High school has given me] some of my best friends for sure, and it’s also allowed me to see that I want to carry on in journalism as what I want to do because, before this, I had no idea. So, that’s been one of the greatest gifts that I’ve had, and the friends, just getting to feel like I belong,” Lawhorn said.
Ava is looking forward to the homecoming spirit week and the night of the football game. She believes this will be a fun experience for her and her friends to share.
“[I’m most excited] for us all to get to do the Spirit week. I think that is going to be fun and I think that we’re going to do group costumes. Also just for homecoming night, I think that’s going to be a lot of fun just to be able to walk out as a big group of friends, I think that’s gonna be a memorable experience for us all,” Lawhorn said.
Being nominated for Homecoming Court is an honor, Ava’s positive attitude and kindness have helped her stand out amongst her peers. Her generosity and willingness to help have definitely made her deserving of this opportunity!
