Homecoming Court Spotlight: Mercy Catota

Homecoming is an exciting time for everyone, especially the ladies selected to be recognized as members of the homecoming court. Mercy Catota (12) is one of the honorable girls chosen by her peers to experience this opportunity as a member of the court.

During her time at LCHS, Catota has been involved in the school as a member of the Panther Crew, Young Environmentalists Club, Interact Club, Vice President of NHS, and the photography director of Journalism. She enjoys participating in school and community activities and encourages others to do the same.

“I hope people come together and realize you can always have someone to go to and not just be alone. Also, be more out there, go around and meet new people, meet new teachers, join clubs, and be more interactive. I slowly started getting into more clubs and got more involved; I think it made my whole high school experience better for me,” Catota said.

After this year, Catota plans to go to Pelissippi State Community College for photojournalism. Once she has completed two years at Pelissippi, she has intentions to transfer to the University of Tennessee to major in journalism. She remains driven to obtain her academic goals with support and encouragement from her mom.

“I’d say, my mom [is my biggest inspiration], she’s always motivating me to be better at school. She never got the chance to finish college because she moved, but she reminds me every day to keep pushing and to try hard,” Catota said.

Through her nomination for homecoming court, Catota is ecstatic to embrace the opportunity to represent the Hispanic community. She is also looking forward to spending time with the other girls selected for homecoming court.

“I’m excited to become closer with the girls. It’s a really great group of girls. I know we all have nothing against each other; we all get along easily. I just think it’s nice to get together for those events after school or during school and create that bond with each other,” Catota said.

Being nominated for Homecoming Court is an honor, Mercy’s determination and involvement have helped her stand out amongst her peers. Her hard work and kindness have made her deserving of this opportunity!
