160 years ago today John Phillip Sousa was born. Sousa or “The March King” began learning music at the age of six and quickly grew into one of the most famous composers of all time. Sousa is best known for his marches including “The Washington Post” and “Stars and Stripes Forever”. In his lifetime he composed over 300 pieces of music with 136 of them being marches.
