Success varies from person to person, but Izzy Mayes (12) has proven herself successful in one of the highest academic degrees. The ACT score is a very prominent factor in decisions that colleges make, scholarship money, and overall academic achievement. Mayes has worked towards a thirty-plus on her ACT for years now.
“I did a lot of practice tests and I did the ACT three times just to see what I needed improvement on, and I really focused on working on my timing,” Mayes said.
For Mayes, her score has impacted her decision on where she plans to apply to college. Getting over thirty has made her feel more confident in her college ambitions. Receiving money to put towards her tuition helps Mayes turn her dreams into reality.
“I plan to attend college at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. I plan on majoring in pre-med, and I am hoping to get scholarship money because of my score on the ACT,” Mayes said.
Mayes has taken a multitude of CTE courses that supplement her desired career path. Through LCHS she has taken Health Sciences 1 through 4. In college, she plans to be a pre-med major and further her aspirations in the medical field. For others wishing to achieve a similar score on the ACT, Mayes offers some advice.
“I would say to work on the timing of each question and do lots of practice before you take it to know what the test will be like. Work with what you specifically know you will struggle with and focus on improving,” Mayes said.
While continuing to move through her senior year, Mayes has set herself up for success for years to come. Getting her ACT score to the place she wanted ensures her more stability and a good foundation for her applications.
