Senior Sunrise is a beautiful tradition that seniors enjoy each year. Many of the seniors this year came together at 7:00 a.m. to see the sun rise above our school. The event provided food, drinks, and many games for the seniors to enjoy. Ciara Davis (12) was thrilled to be there with her friends and witness the lovely sunrise.
“Honestly, I just liked being able to kind of hang out with my friends and play games. The sunrise was beautiful, so I think that was really fun. It was a great way to start the day, that’s for sure,” Davis said.
For many, getting up that early in the morning is a struggle. For some, it comes naturally, but in the end, it is worth it for the experience of seeing the sun come up with your closest friends. Davis did not have an issue with the chore of waking up early.
“I had to get up a little extra early because I walked to school that day. I went to bed early, so I didn’t mind it too much,” Davis said.
Senior Sunrise seems like it is a ways away, but come senior year the actuality of it becomes present. It is usually one of those things that get talked about each year, but you don’t realize you get to experience it as well until the time rolls around. The meaning of senior sunrise represents the start of the student’s final year. They get to watch the sunrise in the fall, and they get to watch it set in the spring as everything comes to an end. Davis also had this realization about Senior Sunrise.
“To me, I’d say to me, it’s always one of those things where throughout your high school career, you hear about people going to the senior sunrise. I mean, I’ve had three classes of seniors before me, so it’s just one of those things where it’s a little surreal that it’s finally my turn to participate in the sunrise. And I feel like it’s a beautiful metaphor just for this is the last time that I’m going to be here and I’m going to be doing this, so I was really excited,” Davis said.
Watching the sunrise with your friends, is to most, the perfect way to start your final year of school. Senior Sunrise offered a great experience and a beautiful view to our seniors; it was a time for them all to come together. Senior Sunset will hopefully be a great way to wrap up the year and bid our seniors goodbye just as Senior Sunrise did a wonderful job of starting the year off.
