College is a new and exciting adventure for many; some have their plan all figured out, while others are still trying to make the life-altering decision of where they will go. For Andrew Lucas (11), he has his heart set on Austin Texas! The Junior is drawn to the school because of their outstanding computer science program.
“I specifically want to go to the University of Austin Texas; they are ranked top ten in the major I want to study, which is computer science,” Lucas said.
Lucas hopes to make it into the ROTC program and Air Force with his skills in computer science.
“I hope to study computer science in the ROTC program and Airforce,” Lucas said.
While moving so far can seem like a daunting task, it does not phase Lucas. The future computer science major is excited to see a new area!
“I’m pretty excited; I’ve already done it once in my life–moving from Maryland to here–so I just see it as another eight hours west,” Lucas said.
Being experienced with the process of moving, Lucas shares some advice for others who are considering leaving home for college.
“Take less than you think you need because the room that you will probably have is significantly smaller than you would expect it to be, and call your family often because you won’t see them as much as you would if you were living locally,” Lucas said.
Lucas is excited about the many opportunities going to college in Texas will bring him. While he is only a Junior, he still can’t wait to see what his life out of high school will look like!
