110 years ago today, the New York City subway took it’s maiden voyage. Although not the first subway in America, trailing seven years behind Boston’s subway, it soon became the largest in America. After opening to the public over 100,000 people paid a nickel to take a ride on opening day without knowing that one day over 4.5 million passengers would ride the New York City subway every day.
